Attention fellow deal-seeking Millennials (is there any other kind?) I’m checking my phone right this second and round-trip tickets to Milan are going for $1,200 a person… Which is pretty steep considering the fact that my budget doesn’t currently allow me to pick up the $5 coffees that I love. But my wife and I have always wanted to travel and see the world. So we pulled all the stops to get round-trip tickets at $490 a pop.
Let me start at the beginning of the story.
Despite our profound love of travel, money has always kept us in our normal travel bubble: California, Rocky Point, Colorado (you know, the basic destination zones for all Arizonans).
It’s not that we don’t adore our usual vacation spots. We are just getting tired of not seeing anything new. So we started doing our research and we downloaded a app called Hopper. Hopper works great, but the deals were still a little steep for our budget. We were starting to feel frustrated and worried that big-league travel was just not in the stars for us. We kept waiting and researching, then I heard about Scott' Cheap Flights, an email service that sends daily emails containing all kinds of deals, like $180 round-trips to Hawaii, $470 to Barcelona, $500 to Shanghai, the list goes on.
Talk about game changer for two restless souls looking down the barrel of a fast-approaching Arizona summer.
I signed us up and became a member which is $20 annually (well worth it, even if you only took one trip a year). Unfortunately when I check my email in the morning, I now have three to five new emails from SCF, none of which fly out of Phoenix. But wading through the tall grass to get to the desert oasis is what you have to do when you’re ballin’ on a budget.
I do see deals for flights that leave from Phoenix or Tucson. Coincidentally, our flight to Italy leaves out of San Diego. While we live in Phoenix, the deal was too good to pass up. We figured the relatively short drive over would be worth it.
Like most of you, we’re doing our best to remain flexible and adaptable. And right now it’s definitely paying off. I HIGHLY recommend Scott's Cheap Flights if you, like us, are trying to save for your future and live in the present.
